SAN DIEGO, March 26, 2010 – Sempra Energy Foundation, the charitable giving arm of Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE), today pledged $100,000 in disaster-relief assistance funds for victims of last month’s devastating Chilean earthquake.
Sempra Energy Foundation will direct the funds through Hogar de Cristo, a non-governmental organization that provides assistance to low-income families in more than 130 towns and cities throughout Chile. On Feb. 27, Hogar de Cristo launched an earthquake relief campaign.
“The Chilean earthquake has had a devastating impact on thousands of families,” said Jessie J. Knight, Jr., chairman of the board of directors of the Sempra Energy Foundation and executive vice president of external affairs for Sempra Energy. “With our support and others’, we hope the people of Chile can overcome this tragedy and restart their lives.”
“We are grateful for the Sempra Energy Foundation’s $100,000 contribution, which will help us continue to deliver food and clothing to more than 15,000 families who have lost everything as a result of this devastating earthquake,” said Father Agustín Moreira, general chaplain at Hogar de Cristo.
