SoCalGas and Kings Care Foundation Are on a Power Play for Kids
Employees and executives worked with local Habitat for Humanity chapter on building four playhouses to help partner families and non-profit organizations
LOS ANGELES, March 29, 2019 – Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) partnered with Kings Care Foundation, the award-winning charity of the LA Kings, to build playhouses benefiting Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) on Friday, Mar. 29. Employee volunteers built four durable and fully functional playhouses, constructing the walls, doors, windows, trim, roof and painting the structures. The completed playhouses will be on display at the L.A. Kings’ Fan Fest on Saturday, Mar. 30. Photos available here. The playhouses will be donated to Habitat for Humanity partner families, their ReStores or other local nonprofit organizations that benefit children, military and veteran families. The playhouses are perfect for preschoolers and early elementary school aged children and are custom built from wood and real roofing material. These are quality playhouses that will last a long time and provide a world where kids can foster their development and creativity. “At SoCalGas, our commitment to the communities we serve goes beyond providing safe, and reliable natural gas service,” said Sharon Tomkins, vice president of strategy and engagement for SoCalGas. “We are proud to support Habitat LA’s mission to help families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter and affordable housing.” “We are once again honored to partner with two long-time Habitat LA supporters, the Los Angeles Kings and SoCalGas, for a Habitat LA Playhouse Build Day at LA Live/Staples Center to kick off Fan Fest 2019,” said Erin Rank, president and CEO at Habitat LA. “The Los Angeles Kings and SoCalGas have really proven their commitment to our mission through their generous support over the years, as well as their willingness to physically and financially help us build hope and homes in the greater Los Angeles area.” Bailey, the Official Mascot of the LA Kings, the LA Kings Ice Crew and Daryl Evans, LA Kings player from 1981-85 and currently a Kings Radio Analyst, attended the playhouse build event in support of Habitat LA.
