SoCalGas Hosts 13th Annual Municipal Green Building Conference
Public Invited to Attend Conference Focused on Water Conservation, Sustainability and Energy-Efficient Building Design
LOS ANGELES, April 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) is hosting the 13th Annual Municipal Green Building Conference and Expo: Navigating the Road Ahead on Thursday, April 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its Energy Resource Center, 9240 Firestone Blvd, in Downey. The expo is Southern California's longest-running and largest sustainability and green building event focusing on the unique needs and concerns of municipalities and the public. Hosted annually by the Los Angeles and Orange County chapters of the U.S. Green Building Council and SoCalGas, this event brings together thought leaders, local government agencies, municipal policy makers, architects, building industry professionals and the public to further the development of a sustainable and energy-efficient future for Southern California. More than two dozen educational sessions will feature all aspects of sustainable design, construction, and operational practices for buildings and communities, including their impact on people, climate, the environment, and the economy. This year, a special focus will be on water conservation, zero net energy building design and the Collaboration for High Performance Schools which looks at improving health and student performance, reducing operating costs and mitigating environmental impacts. Keynote speakers include Christopher Downey, an architect, planner and consultant who lost all sight in 2008. Today, he is dedicated to creating more helpful and enriching environments for the blind and visually impaired. Also speaking is Matt Petersen, chief sustainability officer (CSO) for the city of Los Angeles. As CSO, Mr. Petersen is focused on helping the city of Los Angeles create 20,000 green jobs and a more sustainable and livable city and neighborhood.
