LOS ANGELES, Sept. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) is committed to a cleaner and healthier future for California and has announced its Environmental Champions Initiative. The Initiative is a $500,000 charitable giving campaign that will fund nonprofit organizations that address clean air, clean energy and/or water conservation. SoCalGas will award one-year grants up to $25,000 to nonprofit organizations with environmental projects in the counties of: Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, Imperial, Kern, Kings, Ventura, Tulare, Santa Barbara, Fresno and San Luis Obispo.
Preference will be given to nonprofit organizations with environmental programs or projects that:
- Support low-income communities of color with limited resources
- Cross county lines
- Involve promotion and marketing with other partners or have significant outreach opportunities
- Impact multiple communities or the region as a whole
- Have existing partial funding that can be leveraged by a new grant

Eligible nonprofit organizations will need to submit their applications by Sept. 30, 2015, and selected organizations will be awarded grants by Nov. 14, 2015.
