SAN DIEGO, Dec. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sempra U.S. Gas & Power received the Industry Leadership – Electricity Generation award at the 2014 Platts Global Energy Awards this month in New York. Hosted by Platts, a leading global energy and commodities information provider, the annual recognition program honors exemplary achievement in strategic vision, industry leadership, stewardship and innovative technologies.

Sempra U.S. Gas & Power's jointly-owned Copper Mountain Solar complex in Boulder City, Nev., is among the largest photovoltaic (PV) solar facilities in the U.S.

The award was based on Sempra U.S. Gas & Power's commitment to renewable energy production. Along with its affiliates and joint-venture partners, the company has more than 1,500 megawatts (MW) of solar and wind generation in operation and another 308 MW under construction.

"As a leading developer of clean energy solutions in markets across the U.S., we are honored to be recognized by a world-class industry organization such as Platts for our strategic approach to growing our diverse electricity generation portfolio," said Patricia K. Wagner, president and CEO of Sempra U.S. Gas & Power, who accepted the award on behalf of the company. "I share this honor with our entire team; our renewables project partners, including Consolidated Edison Development and BP Wind Energy; as well as the progressive state and local leadership across the country that have supported our ongoing project development efforts."

"The independent judges panel said Sempra U.S. Gas & Power was a trailblazer, not only against its finalist peers, but in its energy sector as a whole and we congratulate the company on its win," said Larry Neal, president of Platts.
