        SAN DIEGO, March 2, 2010 – Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE) today was named one of the “100 Best Corporate Citizens” by Corporate Responsibility Magazine for excellence in seven categories, including environmental stewardship, climate change, human rights, employee relations, financial performance, philanthropy and corporate governance. 
 
        Sempra Energy received a top rating in corporate governance and ranked 61st overall on the 11th annual list, which evaluated the corporate responsibility performance of Russell 1000 Index companies.  Sempra Energy was one of 11 energy utility holding companies ranked among the top 100.
 
        “Corporate citizenship is a priority for Sempra Energy and its employees and we are pleased that the positive strides we have made in this area are being recognized,” said Javade Chaudhri, executive vice president, general counsel and chief environmental officer of Sempra Energy. 
 
        “We continue to expand the supply of cleaner and more sustainable forms of energy, such as solar, wind and natural gas; bolster our community involvement and charitable giving; as well as improve transparency in our corporate governance practices,” Chaudhri said. 

        In addition to being named to the “100 Best Corporate Citizens” list, in 2009, Sempra Energy ranked No. 2 among electric and gas utilities on Fortune magazine’s “Most Admired” list and, previously, was named to the Ethisphere Institute’s “World’s Most Ethical Companies” list.
 
        Sempra Energy published its first corporate responsibility report last year, which outlined the company’s performance and initiatives on a range of sustainability-related issues, such as environmental stewardship, employee development, diversity and safety.  The report is available online at: www.sempra.com/cr
